Emily is regularly instructed to prosecute and defend in the Youth Court, Magistrates Court and Crown Court. She has experience in a wide range of offences, including affray, theft offences, drug offences, offences against the person, driving, POCA, and sexual offences.
She is a CPS grade 2 prosecutor; and has been instructed to prosecute in private prosecutions for the local authority, and other bodies.
Cases:
R v RM (2018) – successful appeal against sentence on behalf of a 16-year old with complex needs convicted of Robbery. Sentenced of a 12-month Detention and Training Order removed in favour of a Youth Rehabilitation Order.
R v SH (2018) – defence of man who pleaded guilty to s.20 GBH, successfully persuading the Judge to suspend a 12-month prison sentence.
R v CB (2018) – successfully argued exceptional hardship at an appeal against conviction for disqualification.
North Somerset Council v NJ & PJ (2018) – secured convictions after trial under s.444(1A) Education Act on behalf of the local authority.
R v DL & JH & MT (2018) – representing the Crown at a Goodyear indication hearing and sentencing hearing for offence of perverting the course of justice, in conjunction with a murder investigation.
R v B (2018) – assisted in preparation of a complex defence case involving historic sex offences.
