Chloe is instructed to prosecute and defend in the Crown, Magistrates’ and Youth Courts across a broad spectrum of criminal offences. She is a CPS Grade 3 prosecutor.
Chloe is also frequently instructed as either Junior or Disclosure Junior Counsel in complex cases involving serious sexual and violent assault.
Cases of particular interest include:
‘Operation Saturn’ (2019) Bristol Crown Court – Serious violent assault on a runner of a county lines drug operation in Taunton. Issues of joint enterprise, complex medical evidence and substantive telephony.
‘Operation Apex’ (2019) Birmingham Crown Court – Conspiracy to commit robberies of very high-value motor vehicles using aggressive confrontation on multiple victims. The four-week trial included a hit-and-run road-traffic incident leaving a 67-year-old man seriously injured, and perverting the course of justice by concealing the appearance of the motor vehicle used. The evidence at trial involved analysis of complex telephony, particularly where some offenders tried unsuccessfully to conceal identities. The ringleader, who pleaded guilty, received a consecutive term to the earliest release date of his existing life sentence.
‘Operation Willow’ (2018) Bristol Crown Court – Complex investigation resulting in a four-week trial relating to child sexual exploitation, drugs supply and “cuckooing.” Issues included the presentation and management of disclosure of voluminous data arising from social media accounts of teenagers, including vulnerable victims, as well as the mitigation afforded to co-defendant arising from NRM referral as a potential victim of “slavery”.
‘Operation Runway’ (2018) Worcester Crown Court – Revenge murder by two defendants following the robbery of the runner of a county-line drug operation in Hereford. Complex issues of disclosure arising from a separate operation.
‘Operation Thorne’ (2017) Plymouth Crown Court – High-profile six-week trial of a British woman who live-streamed sexual abuse of a very young child over Skype to another woman in San Francisco. Collaborative investigation between UK and FBI. Evidence from serving prisoner taken via live TV link from California over several days in which court sat from mid-afternoon to early evening, to accommodate time difference. Further live evidence from FBI Agents. Accomplice evidence. Cross-examination of toxicologist and gynaecological surgeon called by the Defence.
