Kate Brunner QC and Anna Midgley represented a nurse who was charged with causing the death of a 10-year old by failing to identify the signs of a misplaced feeding tube. The trial lasted three weeks at Bristol Crown Court and involved expert witnesses and highly technical evidence the arenas of nursing practice, gastroenterology and pathology. The defence asserted that the nurse had relied on the opinion of a doctor in the Accident and Emergency Department at a hospital where the feeding tube had been replaced, and that she had been following her training in relation to the warning signs of misplacement.
