Independent settlement meetings in family law cases

A number of members of our team now bring their practical approach and a wealth of skills to a new and alternative service that operates in tandem with our expert advocacy and advisory services.

The panel of members (normally over 15 years call) provides a service conducting an independently mediated settlement meeting as an alternative to Court litigation by which settlement may be achieved without the high costs that are often involved in litigation. The service is available in all areas of family law but it is particularly suitable for matrimonial finance cases where the parties are keen to settle and avoid the escalating costs.

The scheme is voluntary and confidential, and is designed as an alternative to the litigation process and can be accessed at any stage of the proceedings or pre issue.

Our counsel can come to your offices or a neutral venue agreed between the parties, alternatively we have a suite of three adjoining conference rooms that are ideally suited to meetings of this type. Settlement meetings can be held at a date and time for everyone’s convenience, including evenings, and can be held over more than one day without the disadvantage of months of waiting to obtain another court date.

The system of ‘private FDRs’ or ‘early neutral evaluation’ is already becoming increasing successful in other court centres. We, however, do not see why it should start or stop at the FDR stage. Our service is highly flexible and is designed to meet the needs of you and your clients, and the needs of the individual case.
