Liz Cunningham is a highly experienced court advocate who joined the employment team in August 2008.
She is instructed to represent Claimants and Respondents, in both the public and private sector. Her work regularly involves complex cases of Unfair Dismissal and Constructive dismissal, as well as discrimination on the grounds of sex, race and disability, and claims for breach of contract and wrongful dismissal. Among other cases in 2009, she has represented a Financial Director in a £600,000 claim for Constructive Unfair Dismissal and Sexual Discrimination; she was instructed to represent Respondents in a £500,000 public sector TUPE claim and represented the Respondents in a complex Unlawful Deduction of Wages claim in which there were 16 claimants and difficult issues concerning the nature of the service agreements and bonuses, and over–time.
Liz’s knowledge is enhanced by her experience as an HR Consultant for a multi-national award-winning consultancy between 2001 and 2003. She specialised in designing performance management processes, equal pay/job analysis and assisting clients in implementing discipline and grievance procedures. As a result she has a particular appreciation of the issues involved in Equal Pay claims and an excellent understanding of the challenges facing individuals and organisations in ensuring that internal HR policies are lawful and workable.
Since 2005 Liz has been a Visiting Lecturer at the University of the West of England where she teaches part-time on the Bar Vocational Course.
