Practice:
Liz Cunningham is a highly experienced court and tribunal advocate, who is one of the very few barristers on the circuit to practice exclusively in Employment Law. She appears in Employment Tribunals nationwide, as well as the High and County Courts.

She represents Claimants and Respondents from the public and private sectors. Her work regularly involves complex cases of Unfair and Constructive dismissal as well as Discrimination on the grounds of sex, race and disability. It also frequently involves claims in respect of Restrictive Covenants and injunctive Relief and all aspects of TUPE. She has particular experience of matters involving redundancy and collective consultation. Recent cases include representing a Financial Director in a £600,000 claim for Constructive Unfair Dismissal, and representing Respondents in a £500,000 public sector TUPE claim. Other recent cases include a complex Unlawful Deduction of Wages claim in which Liz acted on behalf of the Respondents. There were 16 claimants and difficult issues concerning the nature of the service agreements and bonuses, and over-time.

Liz’s knowledge, and skill with clients, is enhanced by her experience as an HR Consultant for a multi-national award-winning consultancy between 2001 and 2003. Whilst there Liz specialised in projects concerning equal pay and job evaluation. She also designed and implemented discipline and grievance procedures for clients. Liz was part of the team designing the national changes to NHS pay structures. This experience has given her a particular appreciation of the issues involved in Equal Pay claims and an excellent understanding of the challenges facing individuals and organisations in ensuring that internal HR policies are lawful and workable.

Since 2005 Liz has been a Visiting Lecturer at the University of the West of England on the Bar Vocational Course. Liz is regularly invited to deliver training to public and private sector solicitors and is always very happy to do so.
