Practice:
Formerly at Queen Square Chambers, Bristol; Fiona Elder joined Chambers in July 2000.
Fiona is a specialist in criminal law undertaking prosecution and defence work throughout the South West. She is a CPS Grade 4 Prosecutor.
She has a particular interest in cases involving homicide, rape and other sexual offences, also those involving juveniles and vulnerable persons. She has successfully prosecuted multi-handed trials involving offences of serious violence, and has considerable experience in representing professional people such as teachers and police officers, against allegations of sexual assault.
As well as sitting as an Assistant Deputy Coroner from 1995 to 2008, Fiona has appeared as counsel in many inquests representing police, medical staff and families of the deceased.
Cases of particular interest include:
Murder: Junior counsel for the defence of 21-year old accused of killing both his parents in a ritualistic fashion;
Murder: Junior counsel instructed to prosecute a man for the murder of his girlfriend by strangulation;
Rape: Prosecution of a man for offences against three teenage girls;
Rape: Instructed to defend a man accused of raping his four children over many years;
Rape: Defence of a 14 year-old boy accused of raping two of his male friends aged 10 and 11 years;
Violence: Prosecution of six defendants for a near fatal stabbing of a man;
Violence: Defence of a 21-year old woman for the near fatal stabbing of another female.
