Formerly at South Western Chambers, Taunton; David Chidgey joined Albion Chambers 2003. He is a criminal law specialist and is a CPS Grade 2 Prosecutor.
Crown Court
David has a broad range of experience of prosecuting and defending in the Crown Court. Cases of interest in which he has appeared include:
R v Proctor – 10-defendant drugs conspiracy, junior counsel for the defendant;
R v Turner and Others – Junior Counsel for the Crown in a Prison Mutiny;
R v Cheek – kidnapping; fireman alleged to have picked-up women under false pretences;
R v Mulholland – a deaf and mute man charged with harassment.
Forfeiture
David is frequently instructed in cases involving the forfeiture of detained money under section 298 of The Proceeds of Crime Act. He is the author of the section regarding the same subject in Jordans Magistrates’ Courts Criminal Practice 2009.
Inquests
David also conducts inquests on behalf of a range of parties. In particular, he has represented the Avon and Somerset Constabulary in cases involving deaths in custody or deaths where there was a search and rescue operation. He has frequently represented families of deceased persons suspected to have been involved in the cause of death.
